Cory Bros was founded in 1906 by the Cory family.

Cory Bros advertisements for bed pans, bandages and dressings appeared in the Suffragette and The Times newspapers, both before and after, the First World War.

The business remained localised until the early 1970's when the company, under new ownership, developed in to the field of gynaecology. The 1980's saw further expansion into electrosurgery, sharps safety and towards the end of that decade, into laparoscopy.

In 2000, Purple Surgical was also established in order to sell the Cory Bros range of products internationally. At present Purple Surgical sells these products in over 70 countries via a network of over 90 distributors.  

Cory Medical was established in 2002, our 55,000 sq ft state of the art manufacturing facility, based in Taunton, Somerset.

During the course of the last six years Cory Bros has developed an extensive, high quality, single use laparoscopic product offering to compliment our well established Theatre Essentials, Uterine Aspiration Essentials and Safe Sharps Management product ranges.

Today, Cory Bros is a privately owned British company that is ideally placed to serve the best interests of the surgical team, with a complimentary range of high quality, cost effective single use instruments and devices.

Cory Bros head office is in Shenley, Hertfordshire, housing our customer services, logistics, financial and management teams.

Cory Medical, our 55,000 sq ft state of the art manufacturing facility, is based near Taunton, Somerset. Employing over 100 members of staff. We specialise in injection moulding, tubing extrusion, contract packaging, sub-assembly and distribution. We manufacture over 500,000 products per month, supplying our extensive customer base on a sterile, bulk non sterile, own label or O.E.M basis. Cory Medical is ISO9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2003 accredited.

Purple Surgical shares its head office and management teams with Cory Bros, with a team of highly experienced customer service professionals and 4 International Sales Managers.

As an organisation we pride ourselves on the emphasis that we place upon personal and team development, new product introductions, existing product improvements and our manufacturing efficiency improvements and cost reduction strategies.

Some of our major achievements have included:

1967 we introduced the first purpose designed, single use products to assist in uterine aspiration and remain the UK market leader in this field today. We have recently developed a unique, safe, fully 'closed system' for the sensitive handling and disposal of evacuated tissue.

1975 we pioneered the introduction of single use ECG electrodes, electrosurgical grounding pads and accessories into the UK healthcare market.

1980 we introduced the Falope Ring and soon after the Filshie Clip for safe, effective, minimally invasive female sterilisation.

1984 we were the first UK Company to introduce the latest advances in safe sharps management products and techniques that originated in the USA. We now manufacture our own products and have become the European market leader in this arena.

1991 we were one of the first companies to promote the routine use of anaesthetic breathing filters and HME's.

1997 we were responsible for launching the Hydro ThermAblator, a unique device allowing endometrial ablation to be performed under direct vision.

2000 saw the establishment of Purple Surgical.

2002 saw the establishment of Cory Medical.

2002 we introduced our Purple Turtle and Puncture-Proof-Pads to the UK and European markets, offering a significant advancement in improving safety when counting, storing and disposing of contaminated sharps.

2005 we introduced our extensive Trocar Essentials product range.

2006 saw the introduction of our Surgical Mesh Essentials product range for the repair of hernias and all abdominal wall defects.

2007 we introduced our premium quality Ultimate Laparoscopic Intrument range and Ultimate Suction / Irrigation range. 

2007 also saw the launch of our UK surgeon designed ProRepair Pelvic Floor Repair Systems, for both anterior and posterior prolapse repair.

2008 saw the introduction of our Ultimate Trocar range

2009 we added the Ultimate Endo Retrieval Pouch and Ultimate Veress Needle
